The Permanent Collection on Display

About —

The two galleries that are devoted to the Musée d’art de Joliette’s collection present nearly one hundred anachronistically installed works. Ancient art is hung next to pieces by more recent artists, including Dominique Blain, Ed Pien, Marc-Aurèle Fortin, and Ozias Leduc.

The second floor gallery is divided into themes and genres that are closely related to painting, such as landscapes, portraits, and abstraction. The exhibition Marcelle Ferron: The Sum of Freedom is also on view and celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of Québec’s greatest abstract artists.

For its part, the 3rd floor gallery highlights the MAJ’s collection of sacred art through the joint presentation of ancient and contemporary artworks that, together, address themes of an ontological nature.
