By Marie-France Beaudoin

Publication of a sculptural dialogue between religious statuary of the 19th and early 20th centuries and the work of senior Canadian artist Gilles Mihalcean. Using free assembly techniques, Mihalcean creates poetic avant-gardist works from a wide variety of materials including wood, plaster, glass, clay, concrete, aluminum, marble, metal, porcelain and fiberglass. His works are noted for their ability to engender unexpected images and analogies and their juxtaposition with traditional religious icons evokes reflections on the scared and profane, belief and disenchantment.
